Course Summary:

This 4-hour workshop describes how to prepare mentally and physically to work in extreme heat conditions. This course incorporates new regulations.

Learning Objectives:

Participants will learn what attitude and equipment is needed to survive the heat. You will also identify the symptoms of dehydration and heat-related injuries; describe first-aid treatments for heat exposure; explain the importance of water, clothing, and shade; describe the contents of a summer survival kit; and acquire survival tips and tricks.

Intended Audience:

Recommended attendees include managers, supervisors, safety professionals, and crew leads who need to meet regulatory requirements for training and create work/rest schedules for high heat days in specific states and under OSHA’s General Duty Clause.

Prerequisites:

None.

Instructor:

Scott Alquist has over 37 years of professional safety work specializing in construction safety, general industry safety and hazardous materials. Scott has completed the National Highway Institute “Train the Trainer” program and is an Occupational Safety and Health Administration authorized instructor. Currently, he is the Program Manager for Truckee Meadows Community College’s Safety Center.

Payment:

To facilitate this course, a minimum of 10 persons must be registered. Do not pay until instructed to do so. You will receive instructions on how to make payment if the course will take place.

Cancellations must be made no less than one week prior to training to receive a 50% refund. Substitutions are accepted but request must be made at least 48 hours prior to session. Individuals who do not attend forfeit their registration fee.
