Winter Survival – Reno

This course is scheduled for October 16, 2024 (8 am– 12 pm PT).

The course fee is $40.

Course Summary:

This 4-hour workshop teaches participants how to mentally and physically prepare should they become stranded in a life-threatening winter weather. Participants will also become acquainted with what attitude and equipment are necessary to survive extreme cold. Participants will also learn to recognize the symptoms of hypothermia and how to treat them.

Learning Objectives:

  • A brief history of winter survival events.
  • Preparing mentally and physically to work in the harsh environments.
  • Signs and symptoms of hypothermia.
  • Basic first-aid and when to use it.
  • Proper attire for the weather.
  • Survival kits.
  • Survival tips and tricks
    • In a vehicle
    • ATV/UV
    • Outdoors

Intended Audience:

  • This course is for anyone who works or rec-creates outdoors during cold weather conditions.

Instructor:

Scott Alquist is a 37-year safety professional specializing in construction safety, general industry safety and hazardous materials. Scott has completed the National Highway Institute “Train the Trainer” program and is an Occupational Safety and Health Administration authorized instructor. Currently, he is the Program Manager for Truckee Meadows Community College’s Safety Center.

The non-refundable registration fee is $85 and is payable by check or credit card. Payment must be received prior to the first day of class.
