Roadside Hazards and Airbourne Pathogens (Winnemucca, NV)

Course Summary

This 6.5-hour course teaches participants how to recognize immediate hazards in the field related to air and blood borne pathogens.  Participants will learn how to respond appropriately to a variety of situations including, but not limited to: Hantavirus, animal droppings, litter clean up, wildlife encounters, meth lab dumps, and discovery of animal and human remains.

Learning Objectives:

  • Determine traffic hazards and mitigation techniques while on the job.
  • Define pathogens and how to recognize and mitigate exposures.
  • Identify hazards during litter clean up and potential exposures at homeless camps.
  • Recognize Clandestine Meth Laboratory Dumps and practice appropriate safety precautions.
  • List steps to take when discover human or animal remains on the job.

Intended Audience:

Highway construction workers, maintenance workers, field engineers, site monitors, heavy equipment operators, emergency medical personnel, or anyone who does field work.

Prerequisites:

None.

Instructor:

Scott Alquist has over 35 years professional safety work specializing in construction safety, general industry safety and hazardous materials. Scott has completed the National Highway Institute “Train the Trainer” program and is an Occupational Safety and Health Administration authorized instructor. Currently, he is the Program Manager for Truckee Meadows Community College’s Safety Center.

The non-refundable registration fee is $40 and is payable by check or credit card. Payment must be received prior to the first day of class.
