Course Summary:
This 2-hour virtual training is designed to build confidence in student’s ability to maintain gravel roads with respect to repair and drivability. Topics covered include shaping the road, surfacing, and dust control.
Learning Objectives:
Gravel roads require special maintenance and treatment. Participants will learn about:
- Crowning
- Drainage & culverts
- Cross slope & curves
- Corrugation & raveling
- Intersections & cattle guards
- Grading
*Gravel Road MAintenance is an elective course of the Road Scholar Program.

Instructor:
Michael Smith has been operating chainsaws for over 30 years; he is an instructor and owner of Chainsaw Strategies. Michael is an experienced trainer skilled in emergency management, emergency medical services, equipment maintenance, emergency planning, roadway maintenance, and snow and ice control. He is a proud graduate of the Massachusetts Criminal Justice Training Council Police Academy and is also a 25-year veteran firefighter. Michael has taken extensive training in the field of chainsaw operation. His teaching style includes a healthy portion of humor and student interaction.

Payment:
The non-refundable registration fee is $20 and is payable by check or credit card. Payment must be received prior to the first day of class.
