Excavation and Trench Safety (Reno)

Course Summary:

Subterranean work holds a unique set of dangers. To address these, our course, “Excavation And Trenching Safety,” provides a comprehensive, four-hour exploration into the key risks that trenches and excavations pose, such as cave-ins, falls, roll-overs, the presence of hazardous atmospheres, traffic disturbances, electrocutions, water-induced complications, and the unexpected encounter with underground utilities among other hazards.

Learning Objectives:

By the end of this training, participants will be able to:

  • Identify basic hazards associated with trenching and excavation
  • Explain how protective systems work and how they protect workers
  • Describe inspection requirements, duties of the competent person, and other safety considerations in trenching and excavation work

Intended Audience:

All construction workers involved in excavation or trenching work, including laborers, supervisors, project managers, safety professionals, and designated competent persons responsible for identifying and addressing job site hazards, must be aware of the risks.

Instructor

Robert Hernandez: With over a decade of experience as a safety and security professional, Robert Fernandez is a respected expert in the field. As a Registered Safety & Security Professional, he has dedicated his career to promoting workplace safety and training others through his work as an English and Spanish instructor. Holding certificates from prestigious institutions like the University of California San Diego, UCLA, and Cal Poly Pomona, Robert has honed his skills in OSHA compliance, hazardous materials handling, and disaster response. As the past president of the California Society of Safety & Security Professionals, he has been a driving force in advancing safety standards across the state and beyond, teaching classes from California to Hawaii and Guam.
