Managing Roadway Drainage Systems

This course is not currently scheduled. Please check back for future offerings.

The course fee is $20.

Course Summary:

Drainage systems are a key asset to maintain. Drainage maintenance is critical for extending the life of pavements, as drainage systems control water flow along maintainable pathways. Routine inspection identifies maintenance needs and lessens the potential for flooding. This includes inspections of shoulders, ditches, pipes, and culverts.

Learning Objectives:

This 2.5-hour virtual training teaches participants to manage drainage systems effectively and efficiently. By the end of the session, participants will be able to:

  • List types of drainage assets to be inspected.
  • Identify information to be collected during an inspection.
  • Determine if the condition requires a critical, major, or routine maintenance response.
  • Select an appropriate treatment, given the type of drainage asset and its current condition.

This course follows the guidelines and structure of the Federal Highway Administration’s Maintenance of Drainage Features for Safety.

*Managing Roadway Drainage Systems is a required course of the Road Scholar Program.
